Languages

All Characters start off speaking common and a number of additional languages equal to their intelligence modifier. Further languages can be learned by distributing skill points into the “Speak Language” Skill (Note: you never make a roll with speak language, You either speak a language or you don’t. the skill ranks you put into the skill simply increase the number of languages you speak. In order to try and read something written in a language you do not speak you would make a “Decipher Script” check).

Common: Default Language. Most civilized societies speak this language and it is free to all players.
Floronic: A wild language spoken by many of the nomadic tribes in Southern Talgoria. The holy language of Tennigrel Worshippers.
Draconic: A language reputedly spoken by ancient Dragons and Lizardmen. It has been passed down to various cults and tribes throughout the continent as a way of passing secret messages among one another without detection or understanding by the “Civilized folk.”
Orkin: the Language of the hulking humanoids native to the Varnwood. Ork are distrusting of most humans and rarely share their language with outsiders.
Sylvan: A soft and carefree language spoken by travelers of the woodlands. Sylvan has many words for “friend,” each a specific description for the nature of one’s relationship.
Terran: The language of the Mountains. Harsh and gutteral, Terran is a very blunt and stoic language, designed for short staccato sentences.
Auran: The holy Language of the sky. Reputedly, masters of Auran can communicate with great birds. Often Hermits of great mountains will only speak Auran, their isolation causing them to lose connection with any other language (including common).
Ignan:: The official Language of Hellsmere. A dark and foul language often used in evil rituals to the Gragnostic Gods.
Abyssal: An ancient and wild language spoken in the desserts of Zkiaq. The Holy Language of Jalos
Infernal The Holy Language of Zhozen. Speaking Infernal in Western Talgoria can be a crime worthy of execution.
Aquan: The language of Sailors. A mishmash of several languages, including several from far off continents, it would literally be impossible to write a comprehensive dictionary for Aquan. Most speakers of this language must converse for several minutes before they can fluidly understand one another.
Talgorian: The official Language of Tirkana, and the nobility of Western Talgoria. High Priests of Bon and Baladekt use Talgorian in their ceremonies.
Silent-Tongue: A silent language expressed through hand gestures. Silent-Tongue was originally developed by a sect of Jalos worshippers as a way of circumventing the vow of silence their order was forced to take. Jalos (it appears) did not approve, as the entire order was wiped out in a vicious thunderstorm. The language survived, as the order had taught it to several traders and smugglers they interacted with, and spread quickly through the criminal community. While extremely useful, being caught “speaking” Silent-Tongue will draw the suspicion of guardsmen, soldiers, and other representatives of authority.
